Whitstable's Newest Sourdough Bakery


Grain and Hearth opened it’s doors in May this year and we’re so glad they did! They moved from Greenwich down to the coast to bring the people of Whitstable an artisan bakery specialising in handmade sourdough breads and viennoiserie.


The open plan front and back of house gives a really homely feel and allows you to see the bakers doing what they do best! Offering vegetarian, vegan and meat sandwiches all made with crunchy sourdough bread, there’s something for everyone. Whats more is where possible they use organic and locally sourced ingredients!


If you’re after somewhere child friendly Grain & Hearth is perfect, it’s situated off the main high street but far enough back that you haven’t got to worry about sitting outside with near a busy road with wondering toddlers. If however in true British fashion the weather isn’t playing ball then inside offers a large seating area with a long blackboard running the length of one of the interior walls where kids can draw until their hearts content.


If you fancy giving bread making a try they also offer Sourdough workshops where no experience in sough dough baking is necessary. Head baker and owner Adam leads the course which normally comprises of around ten individuals. To find out more click here
