What Is A Virtual Assistant?

Virtual Assistants (referred to as VA’s or VPA’s Virtual Personal Assistants) are becoming increasingly popular here in the UK. A Virtual Assistant allows businesses and busy executives the ability to save time by outsourcing administrative tasks, saving the additional workload and ever-increasing cost of employees.

There are many types of Virtual Assistants who specialise in different areas, so it’s important to find the right one for you and your business. Most Virtual Assistants provide professional administrative support and personal assistance, others provide services such as; event planning, website editing, social media management or customer services and sales support. When hiring a Virtual Assistant you should check their experience in the area of expertise you are looking for. Typically, a Virtual Assistant has at least 5-years background in an administrative role, such as personal/executive assistant, office manager or a secretary.

Virtual Assistants are professionals who run their own business and are in the most part home-based. This allows them the added advantage of being able to be both flexible with working hours but also able to handle multiple clients at the same time. They are not an employee, meaning their clients are not responsible for any benefits (including sick and annual leave), taxes or insurance. They still, however, work for you but only charge for the time provided. A Virtual Assistant really can develop into a great asset, especially for small businesses, providing them with a wealth of knowledge gained through not just past professionally gained experience but also from any lessons learnt from other small businesses that they have worked with more recently.

Virtual Assistants provide entrepreneurs and small businesses with an extra set of hands to help when needed, assistance could be daily, weekly or on a monthly basis. Most Virtual Assistants offer different contractual options ranging from, Pay As You Go, retainers (set hours a month) and one-off projects.

A Virtual Assistant gives you administrative support from beyond your physical space.
