4 Simple Tips For Creating A Bedroom You Will Love
Most of the rooms in our homes buzz with lots of activity with the kitchen as the centre of all happenings and lounge always ready for entertaining. There is just one room designated to offer us a refuge, calm and comfort - our bedroom. We spend one-third of our life sleeping, which is essential to our well-being and health - exactly the reason why it is so important to bring the peaceful feeling in and keep the busyness of the rest of the house out, creating a relaxing bedroom that will restore our energy.
Clutter such as endless paperwork and clothes scattered around the room can affect your sleep and make you feel restless. According to the National Sleep Foundation, decluttering your bedroom and creating clean space allows you to sleep better.
Follow these 4 simple tips to create a bedroom you will love:
1. Make Your Bed Every Morning– it takes only a minute or two and it’s the best way to start your morning. Not only it is the key to making your bedroom look better, it also creates a feeling of positivity and accomplishment. And who doesn’t like feeling like they’ve accomplished something before 7:30am?! I always feel very efficient, energised and motivated, ready to start my day full-speed ahead, once my bed is made. Making bed every morning is directly linked with higher levels of productivity and overall happiness. And it ensures you sleep better at night too! So why not give it a go and see for yourself…
2. Keep it clean– Your bedroom is the place where you start and finish your day. Having a messy room can have a variety of effects on your life. Therefore keeping the room tidy, clean & organised is essential. It’s not just a matter of aesthetics. It’s really important for your well-being too. Tidying your room also tidies your mind. A messy bedroom is a representation of a mental state - ever heard of Tidy House = Tidy Mind? As well as getting on top of the clutter, opening your windows regularly is important to ventilate your home with clean outdoor air. Did you know that the indoor air pollution is one of the top five environmental health risks?! I love the fresh air first thing in the morning! Basic cleaning such as regular hoovering, dusting, washing your bedsheets and curtains will go a long way. And don’t forget to give your mattress a good clean every now-and-again too.
3. Don’t leave trash around – place a small bin near your bedside table to keep any price tags, receipts and tissues from littering your dressers and other surfaces prone to clutter. There is nothing more frustrating than trying to find a debit card buried under a pile of rubbish!
4. Swap The Famous Chair for The over the Door Hangers– a room with a pile-free floor will not only bring happiness to your life, it will also change your life! By installing some hooks on the back of your bedroom doors or using the over the door hangers, you minimise a risk of piles of clothes everywhere. We all know how that famous chair gets overfilled so quickly and spills everywhere in no time, creating mess everywhere. You can use the said hangers for anything including your dressing-gowns, pyjamas, clothes which are half clean / half dirty, not ready for the laundry basket just yet, or even things like scarves, belts and hats… It’s a lot easier to clean the room when everything has been lifted off the floor.
Not only a study found that people with clean bedrooms were the healthiest, most active and more likely to get a good night’s sleep every night; a messy and cluttered bedroom contributes to stress and anxiety too. Clutter can make you feel overwhelmed; feeling like your work is never done. It makes you unable to focus, process information and sleep well when reminders of all the things you still need to do are all around you.
Your bedroom is the first thing you see in the morning and the last thing before falling asleep at night, so why not make that space as welcoming, warm and appealing as possible? When your bedroom is a clutter-free, peaceful space, you feel less distracted, giving you a much needed time to relax just before bed, go to sleep calmly and having a good night’s rest, which will have a positive effect not only on your health as such, but your overall well-being too. Try it, you want regret it.
